Change your life with a good decision.

It has been said that our lives are a culmination of our decisions. Bad or good. Wise or foolish. We all have experienced both ends of the spectrum at some time in our life. Each day we wake up we are given a unique right, which is the power to choose. And while circumstances and environments are influential in regards to what we choose, it never takes the ownership of this special right.

Now that we are in the month of August, some schools are already back in session and the fun of summer is beginning to fade. It is a reminder to us all that the seasons keep coming and going as the world keeps on spinning like it always has. The challenge for us all is whether or not we will apply this incredible power of decision making in such a way that we will become more of what we want to be a year from now.

A common example of this challenge is going back to school. I often hear people talk about wanting to go back to continue their education, but the time commitment is the barrier that keeps them away. "It will take me 2 years to finish that coursework!" Since when did time become an excuse instead of a resource? What that statement is really admitting is that you just want it right away or not at all. Not quite a fundamentally sound mindset when we state it in those terms. When we were kids, the Three Little Pigs helped us understand this flawed type of thinking. Winning today means applying a brick laying mentality to our precious power of decision making.

Diana Nyad is an inspiration to us all that age and distance shouldn't be a wall of influence deterring us from deciding to grow into a new reality. At the age of 61 she began training to swim the 103 distance from Cuba to the Florida keys.  Her journey is featured in the Yahoo series of Vitality. The 3.5 minute video shows us the value of choosing life with our power to decide. Watch it here.
